Prospect:
An air pilot is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of an aircraft. The captain has full responsibility for the safety of the aircraft and its occupants. Pilots exercise command over the crew, including the co-pilots (first officers) and cabin crew. Aircraft are usually operated by two, three or four pilots, depending on the type of aircraft and length of journey. Pilots are employed in one of four areas: passenger scheduled services; passenger charter services; freight services; and business aviation (general aviation). The latter is the biggest sector worldwide and includes: private aircraft; flying schools; and companies transporting oil and gas workers to offshore rigs.
Once you become a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) holder, you can join airlines as trainee pilot or co-pilot with a starting salary of about Rs. 60,000 – 70,000. In about 2-3 years, after flying 2,000-3,000 hours, you can become a Flight Commander. A senior commander gets a salary of Rs. 4 lakh to 5 lakh per month in Air India and Indian Airline. Earlier, there was a paucity of openings for pilots but now they are available in both government sector (Indian Airlines) and private sector (jet Airlines, Sahara, Deccan Airways, etc.). According to unofficial reports, there are about nine more private airlines which are on the verge of launching their services.
There certain attribute which are required to become a pilot. First of all, you should not be afraid of height and have passion to fly those machines. You should possess a good coordination of mind and limbs. The ability to remain calm under any circumstance and apply theoretical knowledge into practice while flying is very important. Since this is very important. Since this is one field where you as a pilot would be responsible for the live of many, you should have patience, commitment, responsibility and confidence. As in other professions, a lot of hard work, stamina adaptability to follow difficult time schedule, good team spirit, etc., are other trait which an aspirant must have emotional stability in crises situation.
